One of the most recognizable paintings in art history is reimagined through a contemporary pointillist language that transforms a familiar icon into an exploration of perception itself. Built from thousands of individually painted dots layered over dozens of applications, the image shifts depending on the viewer's distance. Up close, the portrait dissolves into a constellation of abstract marks; as the viewer steps back, the unmistakable figure of Girl with the Pearl Earring gradually emerges. Inspired by the Gestalt principle of perceptual completion, the work explores how the mind instinctively assembles fragmented information into a coherent whole. Rather than simply recreating a masterpiece, the painting invites viewers to slow down and experience seeing as an active process rather than a passive one.
 
The inspiration for this collection began after spending time along the California coast in Orange County, walking among palm trees and visiting contemporary galleries. Following the completion of my Mona Lisa in 2024, I envisioned a series that would reinterpret celebrated cultural icons through a contemporary language of painted dots. Girl with the Pearl Earring became the first new icon in that continuing collection, bridging classical art history with a distinctly modern visual approach. Each layer of carefully applied paint contributes to an image that changes with light, distance, and perspective, rewarding viewers with a different experience every time they engage with it.
 
Each original is hand-painted in Toronto using acrylic on canvas, signed and dated by the artist, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. No reproductions are painted over, and every work is created as a one-of-one original.
